Boreal Diffusion and Cell Size Lab
|
Product Information
Why do cells stop growing when they reach a certain size? The answer is easy to see with this hands-on lab. Students make three different-sized cell models from a block of agar and measure the extent of diffusion for each. Calculating the surface area to volume ratio shows that the largest cell demonstrates the least efficient diffusion, a known trigger for cell division. Includes: phenolphthalein agar (4%), diffusion medium (vinegar), plastic knives, spoons, cups, trays, sodium hydroxide (0.1M), rulers, plastic gloves and complete instructions featuring a teacher’s guide and a reproducible student guide with glossary, background information, step-by-step procedures and hand-in worksheets.
