This set allows students to see, firsthand, the differences between an extremely light wood and a very heavy wood - in this case balsa and lignum vitae.
There is a wide range in the density of wood found throughout the world. Students visually examine the samples noting color, grain, feel, smell, weight and hardness. They measure, determine the volume and mass, and perform other experiments that reveal the differences and similarities between these two types of wood. Kit contains two cubes of wood - 1 lignum vitae and 1 balsa, instruction sheet, and a data sheet for each cube.
