Product Information
Usually found between the cells of plant tissue, essential oils are substances that contain hormones, vitamins, antibiotics and antiseptics that the plant needs. These oils, which cause the fragrances associated with flowers, fruits, nuts and berries, are often used for perfume or potpourri.
With this lab, designed by chemistry teacher Greg Johnson, students extract essential oils by dissolving them in fat, then separating them by distillation. A condenser of some type is needed to perform the distillation process.
This kit includes our fractionating condenser. Includes instructions. A lemon, orange or other raw material is also required, but not included.
