Dr. Zondra Knapp designed this kit that contains all the materials and basic instructions needed to help students conduct a series of investigations concerning magnets and electromagnetism, especially as they apply to MagLev trains.
Armed with this knowledge, students, working in teams, invent their own ride - a carnival ride that moves frictionless or levitates using magnets or electromagnets. While working on their invention, students are required to keep a journal that includes their ideas, research and notes, tests and results and parts and costs.
Throughout, students learn concepts that meet many of the requirements for physical science, integrated science, general science, physics, and technology education curricula.
