In this lab students conduct a series of experiments on fourteen stamped samples of wood to compare and contrast the physical and chemical properties of each.
There are two different shapes of 7 kinds of wood: 2.5 cm cube and 10 cm x 2.5 cm x 1 cm block. Wood types are: balsa, sugar pine, douglas fir, poplar, sugar maple, red oak and lignum vitae.
In the first part of the lab students observe, measure and calculate the density of the specimens. They then perform combustion and destructive distillation experiments. Developed by Dr. M. J. Hanophy.
Includes: instructions, eight #4 one hole stoppers, 500 wood splints, 8 test tubes, crucible tongs, set of 14 wood samples, eight 30mL low form crucibles. Wood Set is shown in photo.
