The exposed surfaces of rocks, gravel, sand and silt particles are constantly being broken down by physical and chemical processes.
In this lab, students measure the effects of a dilute acid on four different rock samples over a period of several days.
From these observations they can extrapolate how chemicals in the environment contribute to the physical disintegration and chemical decomposition of rock types in the real world. A perfect companion to our Mechanical Weathering Lab.
