A classic demonstration!
Boil 2.5 cm of water in the can and screw on the cap. A vacuum forms when the can cools and air pressure virtually destroys the can.
If you multiply surface area by 760 torr at sea level, the students learn that a force of over 18,000 Newtons was crushing the can.
