Millikan Apparatus
|
Product Information
The Millikan Apparatus allows students to see that electric charge exists in discrete quantities. If a sufficient number of measurements are made, the value of the charge on an electron can be found. This fully assembled apparatus includes a microscope, focusing light, parallel plate chamber, potentiometer for adjusting the voltage on the plates, a polarity reversing switch, and latex spheres with an atomizing device. The latex spheres are easy for students to charge and, unlike other methods, they don't require the use of radioactive sources. Special design features include a vernier control knob for critical focusing of the light, and an easy-to-focus, vertically mounted microscope for easy viewing. A diagonal mirror erects the image so that the latex spheres appear to fall "down" rather than "up." All electrical components are safely enclosed within the plastic base. Please note: You also will need a 3A, 6.0-6.3V DC power supply for the light source; a 200-500 V, DC power source for the Millikan Apparatus; and a high-impedance, 0-500 V, DC multimeter.
