This lab activity gives students a controlled experience with a rather complex task: the classification of things different and similar at the same time.
To properly classify organisms or minerals, students must have knowledge about the meaning and types of traits and how they are used to identify them. Students learn that 20 different objects can be assigned to different things based on color, shape, type of edge, structure, and number of sides.
The experience gained from this kit develops in your students the idea of order among the many kinds of plants, animals, and minerals so they can identify or classify them for reference and illustrates the importance of accurate observations and descriptions.
