Product Information
"The electricity went off and that's when it really got bad...." -Storm of the century survivor The Storm of the Century program brings viewers face to face with all the fury of nature unleashed. In 1993 one of the most intense "nor'easters" ever struck the eastern United States. This storm wreaked a 1,200 mile path of destruction from Florida's Gulf Coast to Canada. When it was over, two hundred and seventy people were dead, more than three million homes were without power, and total property damage exceeded three billion dollars. The program follows one family's harrowing experiences as a 12-foot high storm surge ravages their weekend reunion and shows the dramatic rescue of a group of students on a wilderness expedition in the Great Smoky Mountains who became trapped by a blinding snow storm. The many different atmospheric factors that caused this storm are explored and explained. Duration: 60 minutes.
