Light and Reflection opens with an animated demonstration of how light and shadow work in an eclipse. This program explains how light and reflection are necessary for us to experience the world through sight. Graphics clearly reveal the mathematical angles involved in various reflections in a mirror. After viewing this program, students should be able to explain how an eclipse works, describe how an opaque object forms a shadow, explain the difference between a luminous object and one that scatters light, explain how we see an object when reflected light reaches our eyes, draw a diagram to describe the reflection of a light in a plane mirror, and explain how optical fiber can be used to communicate over long distances.
Light and Reflection is part of the five program Physical Science Series which uses real life applications, investigations and interactive questions, models and animations, humorous skits, historical sketches, and filmed experiments to illuminate the scientific concepts being covered. Each program uses standards aligned lessons that will fit all physical science curricula from grades 5 to 9. Young host-narrators make the presentations more interesting to students
