Product Information
This book, a joint venture between the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and Project Star, with funding provided by the National Science Foundation, is filled with teacher-developed classroom activities and demonstrations that cover not just physics but the life and earth science disciplines as well. These activities were designed to illustrate the phenomena of light and color and spectroscopy. For each, students are expected to predict and record an expected outcome, make and record their observations, record a conclusion, compare their conclusion with a lab partner and record a revised conclusion if necessary. Activities explore the separation and recombining of sunlight; the projection of spectra; light trails and ghosts; the spectral response characteristics of light sensors; "additive" and "subtractive" colors; the biological role of plant pigments; blackbody radiation, and more. Grades 7-12. 300 pp., softcover.
