Construct an acutal fractal in the classroom. This HexaPlex set combines fractals and tessellations in physical puzzle materials for students to build their own visual key to symmetry, iteration, angles, area and scaling, polyhexes, and number series. The puzzle contains just one shape made in five different sizes or generations. Using the 270 piece and simple rules, students use iterative placement of the different generations of pieces to build up approximate fractal structures. The pieces are made of magnet-backed foam that stays put on magnet-receptive surfaces, but is easily picked up and manipulated. Includes a twelve-page instruction pamphlet featuring three reproducible worksheets. Grades 3–12.
