Product Information

Students perform activities that demonstrate different types of physical and chemical weathering.
Once they have a good understanding of weathering, students set up an experiment that ties it all together by comparing the impact of weathering and erosion on limestone, sandstone, and shale.
In a final activity, students observe deposition while creating their own stalactites and stalagmites. Developed by Deb Hemler and Michelle Adams. Grades 4-9.


Includes:sandstone, limestone, shale, meter tapes, HCI, large plastic containers and lids, small plastic containers and lids, zinc coated washers, masking tape, anchoring spikes, yarn, Epsom salts, floating balls, mesh bags, thermometers, stopwatches, pH paper, beans and instructions. Enough material included for 10 student groups.
