Product Information

Carried in the ballasts of European ships, the Zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) has quickly made headway into the Great Lakes. The mussel colonies encrust hard surfaces including boats, buoys and water intake pipes, making the mussels a serious hazard to fisheries and utilities. Despite their diminutive size (5-50 mm), these molluscs now pose a threat to the future well-being of our waterways.
Includes: preserved colony of Zebra mussels (at least 25 mature mussels) and an illustrated, detailed information booklet containing a distribution map and information about the life cycle, development and physiology of the mussel and research into controlling mussel infestation.
