Mineral Collections

Mineral specimens are cut in a variety of sizes to meet various user needs, with common uses including identification on the part of students, displays to be used during lectures and demonstrations, or as chips for convenient physical identification tests in labs. These mineral specimens also demonstrate a number of classic geological features, such as cleavage, and collections of minerals can be used to test the Mohs hardness of other minerals and compare them.

Universal Specific Gravity Kit for an Electronic Scale

Universal Specific Gravity Kit for an Electronic Scale

The Universal Specific Gravity Kit is designed to be used with any electronic scale with a minimum capacity of 15 grams and a tare (re-zeroing) function to easily measure the specific gravity of gemstones and minerals.
Just weigh the stone "in air" on the integrated weighing platform of the scale, then without changing the setup, weigh the stone in water by placing it in the underwater weighing pan of the gem holder suspended above the platform. Plug the two values into the specific gravity equation and obtain the specific gravity of your stone.

Includes: lightweight gem holder support and underwater weighing pan, independent, spill-resistant, adjustable beaker support, beaker for filling with water - 100ml capacity, aluminum test weight, stainless steel tweezers, instructions, reproducible Specific Gravity worksheet, table of 300 common minerals/gems sorted by SG, with 6 other properties, including refractive index.

Note: shown with Boreal Balance - not included.
