WARD'S Animal Behavior Tray is useful when determining whether an observed behavior is taxis, kinesis, or learned, as well as observing habitat selection. Employing the framework concepts of Structures and Properties (LS1) and Ecosystems (LS2), students can observe how certain organisms either migrate to or from certain ecosystems. The tray consists of one center compartment and four outer compartments. By placing small animals in the center and creating various environments in the outer compartments, it is possible to observe the animals' behavior toward a particular environment, denoting their preference for a particular type of environment or stimulus. This kit has been aligned with all published National Standards. Pre- and Post-laboratory assessments and vocabulary words all target specific Science and Engineering Practices and common core standards. The teacher guide also contains specific "Did You Know" concepts that link the real world with scientific standards explored. A student copy master is also included. This activity can be performed multiple times with materials included.
