Innovating Science® Introduction to Chemical Properties
About this item
How do scientists identify an unknown solution?
- Compare unknown solutions to a known sample by their chemical properties
- Aligned to NGSS practices
- Performance expectations: MS-PS1-1, MS-PS1-2, HS-PS1-2
- Disciplinary core ideas: PS1.A, PS1.B
- Cross cutting concepts: Patterns, scale, proportion, and quantity
- Engineering Practices: Developing and using models, analyzing and interpreting data
What makes one solution different from another? The experiments in this kit will help students understand the impact different chemicals have when added to a solution. Student will test the unknown solutions and determine the identity based on a comparison of the chemical properties to a known sample. Kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Teacher’s manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.
Delivery information: Instructor's manual and SDS included.
Caution: WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including [Phenolphthalein (C ),Methanol (R )], which is [are] known to the State of California to cause cancer, and [Phenolphthalein (C ),Methanol (R )], which is [are] known to the State of California tocause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
