Innovating Science® Chemiluminescence
Product Details & Documents
Learn about light energy and light-emitting reactions called chemiluminescence.
- Students will create a chemiluminescent reaction and observe the blue glow it creates.
- Aligned to NGSS Practices
- Performance expectations: MS-PS1-2, HS-PS1-4, HS-PS3-3
- Disciplinary core ideas: PS1.A, PS1.B, PS3.A
- Cross cutting concepts include energy and matter, structure and function, patterns
- Engineering practices include developing and using models, analyzing and interpreting data, obtaining evaluating and communicating information
Most physical and chemical reactions that involve the release of light energy also involve the release of heat energy. One unique and interesting form of light-emitting reaction is called chemiluminescence, or 'cool light'.
Similar to the familiar glow of a firefly, students will create a chemiluminescent reaction in the classroom, and then observe the fascinating blue glow of the reaction, which lasts for over ten minutes. This is chemistry that never fails to amaze students. The kit contains enough materials for 15 groups. Teacher's Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.
Delivery information: Kit includes instructional manual and SDS booklet.
