Students examine thin sections and matching 1" x 1" specimens of nine different rocks to gain a basic knowledge of systematic classification.The set contains three igneous, three sedimentary, and three metamorphic thin sections and corresponding rocks. The set also includes microscopic and macroscopic descriptions of each rock, as well as an introduction to polarized light studies.
