The Eggshell core catcher is intended for sediment sampling conditions where material is too loose or water-saturated to remain in a core tube on its own. As the core tube enters the substrate, the flexible fingers open to allow sediment to pass through. During retrieval, the weight of the sample causes the fingers to close inward, helping retain the collected material inside the liner.

Made from thin, nonmetallic plastic, the catcher is lightweight and easy to replace, making it a practical option for environments that are too soft for rigid or reusable core catchers to perform effectively. While it is not designed for long-term reuse, it provides a reliable solution for collecting difficult samples in the field, particularly in transitional substrates where other methods may fail.
