Penicillium notatum is a deuteromycete that produces penicillin. It is available in normal and high-yield strains.

This organism is also known as 'blue mold' or 'food mold'. The normal yield culture has greenish white spores, while the high yield culture has green spores on potato dextrose agar medium.
