Buchner funnels use vacuum suction for filtration where paper filters or membranes cannot withstand chemical attack of the filtrate. Used in qualitative inorganic analysis, preparative chemistry and in organic chemistry labs to assist in collecting recrystallized compounds these filtration devices are made with porcelain, glass or plastic.
