Science teacher Michael Calhoun developed this activity to help students explore the difficulty of predicting the advance of a developing hurricane.

Following a step-by-step procedure, students mark, label, and rotate the Earth to illustrate and answer questions on solar intensity, rotation, and revolution, and angles of radiation.

In this inquiry-based learning case, students are on a high mountain climbing adventure and need to know what weather is in store for them, building a simple device in the process to help them predict the weather.

The NYS investigations kits have been tested by local NYS teachers to make sure they work in the classroom.
