How Does Pollution Affect Our Waters?
- Aligned to Fundamental Frameworks Concepts ESS3 and LS2
- Pre and post laboratory assessments
- Linked to a real world scenario
- Estimated class/lab time required: 60 minutes over 2 lab sessions
This lab addresses the affects of phosphate and/or nitrate compounds on water. Students will observe water nitrate pollutant, phosphate pollutant over a given period of time. The students' understanding of this exercise will allow them to see the affects of pollution on water as well as how these specific pollutants affect the growth of algal cells. This activity utilizes Framework Science Standards ESS3 and LS2 (Earth and Human Activity and Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics).
This kit has been aligned with all published National Standards. Pre- and Post-laboratory assessments and vocabulary words all target specific Science and Engineering Practices and common core standards. The teacher guide also contains specific "Did You Know" concepts that link the real world with the scientific standards explored. This lab activity is designed for three groups of students. Time Requirement
Day 1: 30 Minutes; Day 10: 30 Minutes.
