Ward's® Antibiotic Resistance Lab
Educational Classroom Kits and Activities
This lab features two experiments that let students determine the resistance of bacteria to tetracycline, an antibiotic. Developed by Edward Alcamo.

  • See antibiotic resistance in action and learn about this important diagnostic tool
  • Allow students to perform a test that's done every day in clinical microbiology labs
  • Since the 1940s, scientists have used antibiotics to combat disease-causing bacteria
Students will use a local sample of soil to isolate naturally occurring antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. The kit leads students through two experiments: using a gradient plate to identify and isolate resistant strains, then using antibiotic disks and clear zones to quantify the degree of resistance of resistant strains

Grades 9–12.
