Explore the Diversity in Your Own Backyard Ecosystem
- Collect material from local environments
- Linked to a real world scenario
- Includes a teacher's guide
- Grades 6 and Up
Using WARD’S specially designed condenser/Berlese, students collect, condense, and extract organisms from leaf litter they collect locally. They will then identify and classify organisms using mathematical, visualization, and modeling methods. After the organisms have been identified the students can explore ecological interactions and each organism’s role in the ecosystem. You’ll get enough materials for six setups, a teacher’s guide, student copymaster, and a dichotomous key with taxa notes. Stereomicroscopes or magnifiers, required, are available separately.
