Bio-Sim: Carrying Capacity Module CD-ROM
Interactive Computer Simulations Demonstrate Key Concepts in Population Dynamics, Ecology, Evolution, Adaptation, and Genetics
The dynamic and fully interactive simulations involve “artificial life”. These virtual creatures live, die, move around, feed, flee, and reproduce in their computer-generated environment. Students can perform experiments simulating the interaction of large numbers of plants and/or animals over many generations. They can make predictions on the outcome prior to subjecting the artificial life to various conditions, then compare the results, which are displayed in graphical format, to their predictions. The results of repeated experiments will vary, creating a better true-to-life experience. The module is topical and challenges students to solve real problems. Comes with a teacher’s manual and a student’s manual with tasks and analysis questions.
System Requirements
Windows: Pentium processor or higher, Windows 95/98/NT/2000, 32MB RAM

The tasks in this model demonstrate the dynamics between consumer and consumed. Students can monitor the amount of animal life in an environment while varying different conditions such as rainfall and reproduction rate. They can also control competing, noncompeting, and predatorial species interactions.
