Ward's® Degrees of Development Lab Activity
Study the Varied and Unpredictable Effects of Temperature on Zebra Fish Development

For oviparous organisms, the temperature at which they develop can be critical. If the temperature varies, it may affect not only the rate of development, but the developmental pathways as well. In this activity, students will study embryology and how temperature can affect development. Students will set up and initiate the breeding cycle of the zebra fish by altering the photoperiod to produce up to several hundred embryos. After collecting and cleaning the eggs, students will then incubate the embryos at different temperatures and observe the effects, even noting that some temperatures may be lethal. The kit includes all materials to breed enough embryos for all of your classes, teacher’s guide, and student copymaster. A stereomicroscope, required, is available separately. Note: Coupon included for perishable materials. Redeem by mail, fax, phone, or e-mail.
