The mass of each cart can be increased in two ways. The top of each cart is cushioned, enabling the addition of more masses. Users can also stack the carts to make the total mass of the cart two to three-times greater than its basic weight.

Inelastic collisions can also be investigated through the Velcro pads, which are found on the back of each cart. This cart is mounted on a set of three low-friction nylon wheels, which allows it to travel in a straight line over long distances.
