Yes, I recommend
Over 3,000 reusable Natural Selection: Game of Chance Kits have sold since 2002 and there has only been one negative review for this kit since its inception at the time of this feedback. While this kit may not be perfect, it is one of the best selling natural selection games of all time for a reason. It has successfully served a nation of science teachers for over a decade.

No, I didn't recommend
I'm disappointed in this kit. I expected more. To simply create a species with a set of arbitrary characteristics, and then roll dice to see if the environment supports them does not really illustrate the concept of natural selection. While chance events are operated on by natural selection, I think this game gets it backwards. I don't think I'll be using this with my class. A better version of this game would have the students create an environment with arbitrary characteristics, create their best organisms to match it, and then roll dice to create a series of environmental changes. Their population would reproduce more or less depending on the change. After a number of rounds of environmental stresses (that could be reversed in the course of the game) the person with the largest population wins.

Natural Selection: A Game of Chance
Adapt or become history. That’s the premise of this fun and simple game. Students select from a variety of traits, then roll a die to determine if that trait makes their created sub-species more or less successful. With this kit students choose from a list fo various traits to create their own unique species then they see if their creature can survive. Great as a student directed activity or with the teacher acting as facilitator. Developed by Steve Parker. Includes materials for five student groups and instructions. Grades 7–12.
