Determine minerals’ identities by their refractive indices. Simply add a single drop of liquid to a slide with mineral chips and examine it under your compound or polarizing microscope. When the refractive index of the mineral matches that of the liquid, its edges will become transparent. Liquids are supplied in 1/4 oz. bottles with applicator rods, and storage boxes keep the liquids safe, handy, and organized. The temperature coefficient and dispersion is stated on each label.
