Trends of the Periodic Table Activity
Students discover the structure of the periodic table by creating one of their own. By organizing element cards based on the properties given, students will recognize for themselves the periodic patterns that are present in the properties. Cards can be arranged to exhibit both vertical and horizontal patterns in at least two different properties. A graphing activity is also provided to show periodic trends very plainly. Developed by Lawrence McAfoos, this activity includes 1 set of 20 cards that contain the names, symbols, and physical and chemical properties of 20 imaginary elements. Grades 8–11.
