Lift Weight and Mass with the Power of Wind

  • Easy to connect parts
  • Reusable pieces
  • Hands on way to investigate the design process
  • A true STEM experience
  • Build stators and coils
The TeacherGeek Wind Lift Activity allows you to build a wind powered lift. You will start by creating the stand from a hole plate, dowels, perpendicular blocks and hardware. Then the lift mechanism, hub and blades are added. Easy to follow pictorial steps are found in a free downloadable document. Encouraging tips are offered for experimentation with blade designs that lead to a variety of outcomes. Check the Wind Lift Activity Guide online for further details (available as a free download).

Engineering Challenges
Design at least four different style blades with varying shape, contour, length and number (2,3 or 6). Test each one to see which can lift the most weight.
Prepare a spreadsheet to record distance, time and weight. Calculate the horsepower of each design to determine which can produce the most work.

Ordering information: Required but not included are Reamer, Easy Cutter, Phillips Screwdriver and Slip-Joint Pliers.
