Quincke’s Interference Tubes

This apparatus consists of two Y-tubes about 15 mm in diameter, connected with rubber tubing, with one path being approximately one-half wavelength longer than the other. When a C fork (256 vps) is held near one orifice and the path difference is 65 cm, there will be no sound at the other orifice. When either tube is pinched shut, and the tuning fork is sounded at the intake, sound comes through.
