TeacherGeek Yeast Mobile

Discover the Benefits of Alternative Fuels

• Easy to connect parts
• Reusable pieces
• Hands on way to investigate the design process
• A true STEM experience

The TeacherGeek Yeast Mobile Activity allows you to easily create and experience an alternative fueled vehicle. You will transfer the power created by an alternative fuel through the use of hydraulics, linkages, gears and pulleys. Thus, you will experiment with simple machine design, fuel sources, gear/pulley ratios, friction and power. The sturdy chassis framework built from the uniquely designed TeacherGeek components is easily redesigned and reengineered. You will find the Yeast Mobile Assembly Instructions (a free downloadable document) is easy to follow, fun and informative.

Engineering Challenges
Design the Yeast Mobile in CAD
Create a Yeast Mobile that will go the longest distance
Create a Yeast Mobile to drag race other Yeast Mobiles
Create a Yeast Mobile to pull an object the greatest distance
Create a Yeast Mobile that will stop as close to a given distance (marker) as possible
Create a Yeast Mobile with a prototype shell (cut, printed, glued poster board)

Innovation Components
Innovation components allow for greater alternative and innovative designs. They are not required, but are suggested to bring more engineering and innovation to the yeast mobile activity. Only a few innovation components are usually needed to create alternative designs, so your supply of innovation components can be used for many activities. Here are some recommendations:

String
Connector Strips
Perpendicular Blocks
5mm Dowels
Pulleys
Galvanized Colored Wire
Cylinders
Tubing
Slide Stop Material
#12-1/2" Screws
#10 Washers
Gears
Wheels
Anything else you can find (raid the recycling bin, wood, metal, plastic, broken toys, etc.)
