One of the largest domestic dog breeds, the Bullmastiff is a gentle giant with a typical weight between 110 to 130 lbs. These even-tempered, affectionate dogs are loyal family pets that are protective and need lots of attention and training. The skull of the Bullmastiff reflects its canid origins and breed characteristics, being 60% Mastiff and 40% Bulldog; a short muzzle preferably with a level or slight under bite like a Bulldog, and a heavy, square skull with moderately wide set eyes like a Mastiff. This skull would be a great addition to any veterinary program or comparative anatomy program focused on canid evolution.
This particular individual appears to have had gum disease as the bone has resorbed (break down of bone), exposing the root of some of the teeth.
